AGAINST WILLIAM BAYLY RUAWARO MURDER CHARGES. _ i OTHER SUPREME COURT CASES, VARIOUS VERDICTS. (Special to "Northern Advocate.") AUCKLAND, This. Day. The Grand Jury, at the Supreme Court yesterday, returned a true bill in a double murder charge against William Alfred Bayly, who is arraigned in connection with the alleged murder of Mr and Mrs Lakey at Ruawaro, on or about October 35, 1033. Having previously pleaded guilty at Rotorua to a charge of bigamy, Evelyn Cecilia Armstrong, aged 20 (Mr Fraer), yesterday appeared for sentence in the Supreme Court before Mr Justice Smith. Air Hubble represented the Crown. His Honour told prisoner that the offence was a very serious one, but the fact that she had made a voluntary confession was in her favour, Prisoner was admitted to probation for throe years and ordered to pay the costs of the .prosecution. A plea of guilty was entered by John Briton Clark, carpenter, aged 35, Clark, for whom Air Noble appeared, was indicted on several charges of obtaining last November and December by false pretences and forgery. He was remanded for sentence until the close of the criminal session. Edward Johnson, who was chargqd with the theft of £24 10/ from the person of Michael Breen, was found not guilty.

A verdict of not guilty was returned by the jury, after considering the evidence in the charge against Albert .Tames Clark of stealing oil and breaking and entering the premises of the Ferry petrol station. In summing up, his Honour said the sole question was one of identity, and in cases involving identity the jury must he very genuinely satisfied to bring in a verdict of guilty. The theft of a communion cup and silver cruet from an undenominational church at Gratia by Harris O’Neill was held by the jury to have been proved, and he was remanded for sentence.

George Eden Charles Hayward, aged 29, had earlier pleaded guilty to the theft of a communion cup and cruet from the church at Gratia, and to charges of breaking and entering, theft and receiving. He was remanded for sentence.
