After the Monowai, which arrived at Wellington yesterday morning, had left Sydney, a girl stowaway, Lizetta Anderson, aged 15 years, was fosnd on board. She suited she was trying to reach New Zealand in order to join her parents who had gone to .Auckland. Members of the crew of the Monowai took up a collection and sufficient was raised to pay the girl’s fare. The party of Australian farmers. also oh board took up a collection to .pay her fare from Wellington to Auckland." The girl was detained by the police" while inquiries were made regarding her father’s whereabouts. She appear' ed in the Police Court later in the day charged with being an undesirable alien. She was remanded till Saturday.
The girl explained in an interview that she was a writer. “I used t) write for the children’s section in Sydney and they published some of my poems,” she said. “Then I started, to write a book of fairy stories, and I stayed in Australia after father and mother won't to Auckland, because I wanted to have the book published. No one would buy my book. I took it tb publishers, but they said they did not want it. After that I got angry and
tore my book up. “Then I had no way of getting money to go to New Zealand, so I went on the Monowai as a stowaway. I just walked on board. No one knew I did not have a ticket until I told them. It was nice trip. The stewards paid mv fare a‘hd I'was given enough money to go to Auckland as soon as I can get out of this bother. ”
