MANGONUI

THE HOSPITAL.

PROGRESS OF WORK. Mr A. Y. Provan, the contractor for removing and re-building the Mangonni Hospital, now lias the job well in hand. One shipment of materials has arrived at Kaitaia from Mungonui; the blocks for the isolation ward are in; and the floor almost completed. Another load of materials, loft Mangonui yesterday and came into Awanui on Tuesday morning’s tide. The intention is to build the isolation ward and the new maternity ward first. When these are completed, the p-esent maternity hospital and the isolation ward will be available for general use. It. will be necessary to provide temporary accommodation for the nurses, and it is proposed to do this at Kaitaia. If unavoidable, tents will be erected, but there is every likelihood of sufficient accommodation being made available by private citizens until the nurses’ home is ready. A start with the pipe line for the water supply should not long be delayed. The survey plan lias gone to the Department for approval, and should be returned in the course of a day or so. The formation of the road to tho trig station will bring within a comfortable walk from-the hospital an old Maori fort, from which one of tho finest view's in the North is to be obtained. The Town Board has formed the road to the town, district boundary, and the County Council is continuing the work to the top of the hill.
