Trades and Labour Council for the purpose bf obtaining extra relief pay, brought against Albert James Birchfield/ were heard in the Supreme Court yesterday. Accused was found not guilty on the first count, and guilty bn the second,- with a recommendation —to leniency.../ t--In summing up, Mr. Justice! Ostler said he could not understand the defence/ It was- no" defence at'all.' It ■yas an admission of a crime—that defendant intended to mislead. Op his own evidence, the jury could do nothing but find him guilty. His Honour suggested the jury -could add a rider. • ■
