Assurances of the continued loyalty of the Karotongan people to the British Flap Avert* voiced in the courtyard of Waltangi last evening’, when the head ariki, Makea Mui Tinirau, received his 0.8. E. at the hands of the Gov-ernor-General and presented His Excellency Avith a. ceremonial axe and hook. “To all the people of Noav Zealand 1 bring greetings," said the leader of the Karotongans. “I feel highly honoured at being a guest on this notable occasion. We are very promt to be under the British Flag; and grateful that avc are part o 1 the groat British Empire." (Applause). The gifts were handed to his Excellency by male and female mem hers or Tmiron’s family. in the course of a. brief reply, Lord Bledlsloe said that Her Excellency and he had the happiest recollections or tin* welcome accorded them on their visit, to "Rarotonga and of the chant", (eristic generosity of the people, Avhich was equalled only by the beauty ot their singing, their dancing, and I heir A’-omenfoik, Dances and welcome songs from the Karol,ongan party concluded this purlieu of the celebrations.
