MR JUSTICE MAC GREGOR
EARLY RETIREMENT LIKELY. (Special to “Northern Advocate.”) AUCKLAND, This Day. Another Judge of the Supreme Court, the lion. Mr .lustiee MacGregor, will retire this year. Although no ollicial auuouucomeut has been made, it is understood that he will go ou twelve months’ retiring leave when he reaches his 72nd birthday on April .14. He intends to visit England. His successor is not likely to be appointed for a year, as the number of judges who can hold office at any one time is limited.
The Supreme Court Bench has just been restored to full strength by the appointment of Mr Harold Johnston, K.C., to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of the Hon. Alexander Adams last August, following a year’s leave of absence.
Prior to taking his seat on the Supreme Court Bench, Mr Justice MacGregor had a distinguished career at the Bar, practising in Dunedin from 1800 to 1020, during the last six years of which period he acted as Crown Prosecutor. He was created a King’s Counsel in 1914. Prior to his elevation to the Bench in 1923 he was SolicitorGeneral.
