Racecourse ou Saturday, was the success of Mr W. IT. Maria, the Kaitaia owner trainer. He tv on three races, Alloy taking two and British Columbia one. CHIEF CLERK LAID UP. (Special to "Northern &<ivocate.”) AUCKLAND, This Day. During the running of the Tnrna Handicap at Thames on Saturday, Chief Clerk was galloped on, and he will probably have to rest for some time, as he had one of his hind legs badly cut. An inquiry into the cause of the accident was held by the judicial 'committee, which, after hearing the evidence of several riders, found it was accidental, TROTS AT WELLINGTON TOTALISATOR DECREASE. SWABS TAKEN FROM HORSE’S THROAT. INCIDENT AT THAMES. (Special to “Northern Advocate.”) THAMES, This Day. After Prolyxo had run unplaced in the Thames Plate Handicap at the Thames Jockey Chib’s meeting on Saturday, a veterinary surgeon took a swab of Her saliva. This was an action unusual in New Zealand racing. Possession -was also taken of a bottle containing the remainder of a -fluid that had been administered to Prolyxo with a syringe down the throat, and what fluid was left in the syringe. The owner- of Porlyxo, Air L. S Otway, approved the taking of the swabs, and it was performed in the presence of Mr 0. Corner, chief stipendiary’- steward to the New Zealand Racing Conference, and Air F, Cullen, racecourse inspector . Both the swabs and fluid were brought to Auckland by Mr Cullen, and will bo submitted, to
analysis. Prolyxo’s career lias been affected by bleeding, and the attendant who administered the fluid said it was given to eheelc. Ihe tendency to, bleed during a, race.
