HONEY PRODUCTION

SUGAR FOE BEES. LOWER DUTIES SOUGHT. (Per Press Association. —Copyright.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Pointing out that the duty on sugar constituted a hardship to those engaged in the beekeeping industry, Mr C. A. Wilkinson (Independent, Egmoht) asked in the House yesterday

whether some relief could not be given. The Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. C. E. Macmillan, said the effect of the sugar duty on this industry had been fully discussed last year with the Minister of Customs, but the Government had found itself unable to remit the duty. f The practical impossibility of ensuring- that duty free sugar would be used only for feeding bees had had an [important bearing on this decision.

Tlu i whole question had lately receivr,l further attention, and steps 'were being- taken to ascertain whether it was possible to adopt some method of denaturing sugar, which would not. detract from its fitness for feeding bees.
