TROUBLE AT ASHLEY CAMP. (Per Press Association.—Copyright.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. , Because the Public Works Department lias decided no longer .to grant free transport to and from Christchurch for relief men working at Ashley camp, the men decided at a meeting last evening.to declare a "lock-out." . This will not affect men who are resident in camp, but only those who have been travelling there to and from the city. DISTRICT ALLOCATION. • PROTEST AGAINST "CUT." (Per Press Association.—Copyright.) OAMARC, This Day. A meeting . of.. 200. unemployed on Thursday protested against cuts in allocations.. It was reported that 100 men this week had been,reduced- and it was understood that a further 40 would be affected next week. It was decided thai a deputation should wait on the Mayor, Mr F, Coomey, and Mr J. A. Macpherson, M.P., to move for a full allocation from the Unemployment Board for the district.
Strong exception was taken to the attitude of the hoard in not forming a local unemployment committee in place of that recently dissolved.
The question of married men being sent to the Waitaki hydro electric works was discussed, and it was decided to protest against compulsory labour for the work, and to call on unemployed men to refuse work at Waitaki under conditions. ' -.
