Ransom,- visited. ■ Oamaiu - yesterday and met a deputation of Crown tenants who asked for remission wf-half the arrears of rent, and that the balance owing be spread over a period.' The Minister replied that the policy of the department was to -treat each case on ils merits. No general remission was possible.-' / The Returned Soldiers’ Association asiked for an assurance that no repossessed property under the Discharged Soldiers’ Settlement Act would be offered,- to a civilian without giving the mortgagor a chance of taking the property at that value. The Minister replied that where a mortgagor was a. trier he certainly would not be passed over for a civilian.
