MAORI FOOTBALLERS

RETURN TO WHANGAREI. PLAY REVIEWED. The Tokerau Maori footballers returned to Whangarei yesterday after the quest of the Prince of Wales Cup. Mr L, Parore, the co-manager, conversing with a “Northern Advocate’’ representative this morning, spoke in high terms of the exhibition given by his team at the big match at New Plymouth, Both sides played wonderfully open football, and many critics said it was the best display of football they had seen since the Springboks’ visit. His injury in the trial game kept M. Walters, the key of the rearguard division as centre three-quarter, out of action, this necessitating a reshuffling of the backs, to a great extent affecting their combination. However, W. Davis (Hokianga), who came in to centre from the wing, was the best and iruist dangerous man on the field, seor ing two brilliant tries initiated by himself.

“The hospitality extended to the visitors was superb,’’ said Mr Parore. “We were treated like kings. The kindness of these people can never bo repaid, and the parting was a sad one.” “The send-off function on the Monday night lasted into the early hours of Tuesday morning. We left for Tailmarunui at S a.m., arriving at 1.30 p.m. the next day, so that the players were practically two nights without sleep. This had its effect on the play of our boys against King Country. The handling of the King Country men, particularly Galbraith, was splendid.’’ Mr Parore said the team was fit and looking forward to the concluding match of its tour against North Auckland tomorrow.

PLAYERS PROM NORTH. EXCLUSION DECIDED UPON. The »North Auckland Rugby Union meeting last night decided to. fall in with the wishes of the Health Department. Limicll, Frear. ' AlcKenzie, Peacock, Finlayson. Emergencies.—K. Alcßae, Ewenson.
