THE BRITISH ISRAEL.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —In reply to “ H.R.B.’s” letter in last Thursday’s “Advocate,” may I ask where “H.R.8.” gets his information that “Britain is the Israel of God” (spiritually). It is certainly not the teaching of the Word of God. “H.R.8,” says Israel and the Jews “sinned themselves out of the inheritance of the promises of God.” The Word says Israel stumbled at Christ, but a remnant shall be saved (Rom. 10:27) when once more God “ pleads 'with them as He did with their fathers” and “brings them back to the bond of the Covenant (Eze, 20:35). This will bo after Christ has returned to the earth (Acts 3:20) and Israel look on Him Whom they pierced and acknowledge Him as their Messiah (Zech, 12:10), for God has not cast off His people for ever (Horn. .11:1, Isa. 41:9). “H.R.8.” says the nation of Israel were a “naturally religious people.” The Word says they were “always stiffnecked and rebellious,” and “remain so to this day.’ That God’s determination to fulfil all the good He has promised them is “not for your sakes, O, Israel,” but for the honour • of His Name. “H.R.8,” says: “The Jews are getting their land back now because they are “accepting Christ}.” If he means they are accepting Christ according to “orthodoxy,” as the second person of the Trinity, then [they arc not helping themselves, but turning from the God of their fathers, who said, “Hear, O, Israel, the Lord your God is One God, and there is none else beside Me.” The Word .says (in Micah 4) that “in the last days the nations will once more be gathered against God’s chosen people,” but they knew not the thoughts of the Lord, neither understand they Ilis counsel (verse 12). The nations will walk in the name of their God, but Israel will walk in the name of Ihe Lord their God for ever. “This is the time of Jacob’s trouble, but Israel vshall be saved out of it.” God will cause them to turn and thrash the nations (verse 13), and will afterwards cause them to be a blessing to ;all nations (verse 2). Finally Paul eay.s to us Gentiles, who have been invited to partake of the promises of Abraham, and to become co-heirs with Jesus Christ of the good things promised, upon condition of belief in them and baptism into Christ for a union with His Name, “don’t boast,” for you are wild olive branches that have been grafted contrary to nature into the good olive tree, and though bearest not the root, but the root thee.” — I am, etc., A. P. FISHER.
