“Of every luxury,” wrote the late Dr, ~i Richardson (once somewhat notorious as the would-be founder in England of the modern hygienic Ittopia), “tobacco is the least injurious. It is innocuous as compared with’ alcohol; it does infinitely less harm than opium; it is in no sense worse than tea —it brings peace to the over-worn' 1 body and restless mind.” Smokers the world-over will say ‘ ‘ hear! hear!” Non-smokers will probably snebr. But they don’t count. There is indeed no valid reason why smoking should tbe condemned provided the tobacco’s right. It is excess of nico-tine,'-..that deadly stuff, that should be avoided. Many a smoker contracts heart 'or nerve trouble without suspecting that his tobacco has been- to blame. 'There are brands innumerable like. that. About the purest of any are our New Zealand ones. Why ? Because they are toasted. And for flavour and aroma they s stand absolutely,'alone!
