MASS ATTACK
ON HITLERITE GERMANY PLANNED BY FORMER LEADERS. JEWS CONTINUE PROPAGANDA. WORLD-WIDE BOYCOTT. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received 9 a.m.) LONDON, July 20. The Paris correspondent of the Daily Express’’ says today’s antiNazi demonstration in London electrified the immense German population in the French capital. France has given homes to many of Germany’s formerly big men in science, literature, philosophy, art and the cinema. A mass attack on Hitlerite Germany is being planned from Paris by her own former leaders. France is delighted at r the turn of events, as she recognises that Germany is more isolated from Europe than any nation has been since Napoleon met his Waterloo. A French publishing house shortly will begin the publication of the German books which recently were burned in the streets of German cities by Herr Hitler’s orders. A despatch from Amsterdam says a Jewish congress there is being attended by delegates from 30 countries. It was resolved to continue to organise throughout the world a boycott of Gorman products and shipping.
THE BROWN SHIRTS. REORGANISED BY HITLER. A MILITARY MOVEMENT. STRANGE REPLY TO MR HENDERSON. (Received ,10 a.m.) LONDON, July 21. The Berlin correspondent of the “Manchester Guardian” states that Herr Hitler’s decree reorganising the Brown Shirts in eight regional groups is a, military measure of far-reaching importance. The Brown Shirts henceforth will perform the double function of defending the dictatorship against internal and external enemies. The ,groups would correspond to the existing Reichswehr groups, so that the Brown Shirts, being instruments of the dictatorship, would be bound eventually to absorb the Reichswehr, who, hitherto have shown a certain distrust of Hitlerism.
Herr Hitler has now begun to wrestle 'with, this last remnant of preNazi Germany. The Brown Shirts arc likely to develop a formidable fighting force.
It is ironical that the decree should have been promulgated immediately after Mr Arthur Henderson’s visit to Berlin on disarmament business. Thus, incomparably the most important step taken by post-war Germany toward rearmament was accompanied by friendly and conciliatory assurances to Mr Henderson,
WORLD BOYCOTT. JEWISH FEDERATION, TO WORK AGAINST GERMANY. (Received 12.30 p.m.) AMSTERDAM, July 31. The Jewish conference here, attended by delegates from 30 countries, resolved to continue to organise throughout the world a boycott of German products and shipping. The conference resulted in the appointment of a World Federation, with headquarters at London. Dr.: Samuel Untermyer (America) is honorary president, and will co-operate with Lord Melchett’s committee to implement the resolution calling on civilised people to support a worldwide boycott of German goods and shipping in order to protect Jewish rights and the dignity of Germany, where protests from all points of the world have been unavailing, against Hitler’s incredibly inhuman 'exterminatory policy. Dr. Untermyer urged the League of Nations to act immediately by providing Dr. Nansen with passports enabling Jews leaving Germany to take their property with them, and also to enforce the labour provisions of the Versailles Treaty which Herr Hitler Was violating by expelling Jews from trade unions.
