ACTIVITY IN FAR SOUTH. (Per Press Association.— Copyright.) : ' INVERCARGILL, This Day. " Something in the nature of a'boom ' has occurred in the building trade in Invercargill since the inception of the Unemployment Board’s Number 20 Scheme. The number of applications for subsidies under the scheme received in Invercargill to date total 105, the costs, including labour, totalling £167,036. Additions to the hospital are estimated to cost £40,000. The cost of labour Is estimated at £49,241. The majority of the applications arc for new dwellings and alterations and additions to business premises.

During the week, 74 moor applications for the Unemployment Board's building subsidy have been lodged with the Auckland office of the board, representing new buildings and alterations and renovations of an aggregate value of approximately £12,000. This brings the applications received in the Auckland metropolitan area since the scheme was reintroduced some weeks ago to 334, and the total value of the work contemplated to £130,137. Of the total amount it is estimated that labour costs will absorb £43,507 and the amount to be paid in subsidy will be approximately £16,343.
