The “Daily Herald” says the Cabinet has belatedly realised that its delegation got the worst of practically every bargain at the Ottawa Conference. It is very disturbed by the successful efforts of the Dominions to develop Imperial trade by increasing their exports to the United Kingdom while their imports lag. Protests have been made, and Mr Thomas has urged the dominion governments to respect the spirit of Ottawa, but the dominions have proved unresponsive. They hold that a bargain is a bargain, and that they are entitled to all the advantage the Ottawa bargains give them. Wednesday’s questions in Parliament; says the paper, were a * ‘ put up’ ’ job.
