BOLD BID FOR BRITISH EXPORT BUSINESS
SIR WILLIAM MORRIS CREATES NEW ORGANISATION. An important gesture of industrial confidence in the future of Britain’s overseas trade is contained in an announcement made in England yesterday by Sir William Morris, Bart., famous motor car manufacturer. The cabled message .states that Sir William has consolidated the export activities in his group of factories manufacturing Morris Wolseley, Morris Commercial, and M.G. cars, by forming a new company with a capital of a quarter of a million sterling. The four vehicle manufacturing concerns have already met with considerable success in their individual efforts in overseas markets. The new move will consolidate their position, and more effectively expand sales. . The new company, which is known as Morris Industries Exports, Limited, will absorb and control various subsidiary overseas companies already created. Those include Morris Industries, India, Morris Industries, Africa, Morris Automobielfabrieken, Holland; Morris Commercial Agencies, Belgium, Under its control also come various sales and service representatives and distributors organisations already established for Morris Wolseley, Morris Commercial, and M.G.. cars throughout .the. world* The formation of Morris Industries Exports, Limited, is the outcome of visits Sir William has personally paid various parts of tho world in recent years, and is indicative of the faith that our industrial leaders place in export trade. Having successfully completed the first period during which factories under his control have made individual-efforts, Sir William has now adopted a policy of consolidation and unification. The board of the new company is a strong one. The managing director, Mr S. G. K. Smallbone, has boon associated with Sir William Morris since 1014, and has travelled extensively. Other directors include the managing directors of constituent manufacturing companies and the export sales manager of Morris Motors. It is expected that the centralisation brought about by the new move will effect economies, making it possible to meet foreign competition more successfully, and the overseas motor user will obtain still more complete and widely distributed sales, and service benefits.
