CHILLED BEEF SUCCESS

Advice that the recent consignment of chilled beef by the Port Falfey bad arrived in excellent condition has been received by the Acting-Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, from the London manager of the New Zealand Producers ' Board.

The meat was being distributed through Smithfield and the provincial markets. The trade at Home, continued the message, was very pleased with the quality and condition, and agreed that it was the most successful shipment ever landed from New Zealand or Australia. The Meat. Board co-operated with Messrs Thomas Borthwiek and Sons, Ltd., ill the shipment, which comprised 520 hindquarters of beef, handled at the company's Waingawa works, ahd loaded at Wellington on June 7.

Bryce, who represents Borthwicks in Sydney, stated today that the New Zealand shipment of chilled meat by the Port Fairey was a hopeful augury for the meat industry in Australia. Experiments with the process had been carried out in Brisbane, and meat kept for 48 dayfc in perfect condition, although none had been shipped.
