CRICKET FIELD
WIN FOR WEST.INDIES. GENTLEMEN FOLLOW ON. BOWES INDISPOSED. (Received 1 a.m.) LONDON, July 20. In the cricket match at Stoke-on-Trent, West Indies defeated Staffordshire by nine wickets. The County made 122 (Constantine, 7 for 50), and 99 (Aehong, 4 for 3; Constantine, 4 for 22). The Indians replied with 158 and 55 for one wicket. In the match at Lord’s the Players scored 309 (Marriott 4 for 81). The Gentlemen were dismissed in their first innings for 143 (Jardine 59), and following on lost two wickets for 152 (Turnbull 72). W. E. Bowes (Yorkshire) is unfit to play in the second test against West Indies, at Manchester, commencing on Saturday. He will be replaced by E. C. Clark, the Northants fast bowler, who played in the Lancashire League last summer. The latter had been selected for the first test at Lord’s on June 24, 26 and 27, but was not available, C-. G. Macaulay (Yorkshire) filling the vacancy.
