TARIFF “HOLIDAY”
QUESTION OF DURATION BRITISH INTERPRETATION. (British Official Wireless.) (Received 12.30 p.ra.) RUGBY, July 20. Referring to the tariff truce during a Parliamentary answer today, the Financial Secretary to the Treasury, Mr Hore-Belisha, said that under - the terms of the resolution abopted by : the Organising Committee of the World Economic Conference, the governments concerned had agreed^'-that - they would not adopt any new initia-' 1 ti.ves in the matter of .Tune 12, nor during the proceedings 1 of the conference, except in : the ease of any individual governments. Power had been reserved to withdraw at any time after July 31, 1933, on giving one month’s notice to Ijhat effect. In the view of the British Government, which subscribed to that resolution, they remained bound by its terms during any adjournment of the conference, unless its proceedings hpd‘ boon fullv concluded.
