CONCILIATION COUNCIL
/ REPRESENTATION QUESTION,
coaiAirsSroner; upheld,
(Special to “Northern Advocate.”) AUCKLAND, This Day.
An important decision concerning Conciliation Councils has been given by the Arbitration Court. Last month, on behalf of 70 of the smaller retail butchers, with 112 assistants, application was made for a new award. The Workers’ Union and also a number of the larger firms wore cited as respondents.
Twelve assessors, four representing each party, appeared in council, but the commissioner, Mr P, Halley, said he could recognise only four from each side. Representatives of the larger firms protested strongly, saying they numbered 32, with nearly 500 employees. The matter was referred to the court, which upholds the commissioner, and adds that it is true a considerable isection of the employers may be disfranchised, lint in the event of terms of settlement being agreed on dissentient parties have a right to apply to the court within one month for exemption.
