HOME PRICES SATISFACTORY.

SOFT VARIETIES UNSUITABLE.

Tlic apple trade continues satisfactory. With only moderate quantities arriving' and the general quality and condition of the fruit being good, buyers have been operating freely at a higher level of prices. Importers of Hambnrgs by no means favour the shipment of the apples in unrefrigerated chambers. An experiment made in thh Dutch steamer Djamibi has convinced them of the undesirability of these shipments.

Reporting on the last shipment, one Jinn writes: —“Considering the long voyage, the Oleopatras and Dunns were landed in fairly good condition. The fruit, however, was ripe, and some over-ripe. Jonathans were in a wasty condition, and sold at low prices. Although the prices realised for Cleopatras and Dunns were fairly satisfactory, we certainly do not encourage any shipments in common storage as with larger arrivals we are sure the prices of such fruit will be considerably lower than for refrigerated. It is out of the question to ship softer vari-, eties like Jonathans and Five Crowns unrefrigerated, as they are always found to arrive wasty. ”

The Rotorua's New Zealand apples sold as follows: —Coxs, 0/ to 14/ a case; Worcester,,B/ to 1 10/ to 13/3; Dunns, 1.1/; Wolscley, S/d to 9/3; Jonathans, 9/ to .12/9. The Rangitiki’s New Zealand pears sold as follows: —Boses, 10/ to 12/0 a box; Vicars, 0/0 to 7/3; Packham, 10/ to 10/3; Winter Cole, S/3 to 10/0; 01 airgenu, 7/0 to S/0.
