FRENCH RETALIATION
IMPORT TAXES APPLIED. (Received noon.) PARIS, April 21. Presumably for the purposes of tariff bargaining, the Government has raised the import tax over and above the ordinary duties on six British manufactures, simultaneously reducing three others. The import tax was designed In counteract, their avoidance of the interna] sales -tax on raw semimanufactured products, ostensibly in retaliation on oilier Continental tariff reprisals.
