BASKETBALL FUN
HELP THE DISTRESSED. The unemployed relief fund is constantly in need of assistance. The local commit tee has calls always in excess of its ability to afford relief. Last year about this time Bargain Stores Ltd. arranged a burlesque basketball match, men versus the girls of the store. This match was a most humorous affair, and was thoroughi ly enjoyed by tho public. In order to Indicate that the basketball season is about to commence, and at the same time to assist the local relief commitee’s funds, the Bargain Store’s staff proposes to stage two matches—two teams of young ladies in their club uniforms, and two teams of alleged young ladies (alias men), dressed in the weirdest fashions one could imagine. If you feel that you could do with a laugh without serious injury—a continuous one for about two hours —come along next Thursday afternoon to the Whangarei Schoolgrounds. The Ladies’ Relief Committee, under the guidance of the Mayoress, Mrs W. dunes, will be in attendance, and will conduct stalls in the school grounds. They will have . for sale cakes, sweets, tlowers, and other things. Come along.
Buy the goods and help a eolleetion that will be taken up. There are many in this town and district who are in absolute need and real distress. Every little helps; the need is very great.
