LOCAL ELECTIONS
It is gratifying: to find that thepeople of Wbangaroi are alive to their responsibilities in connection with municipal affairs. Contrary to the expectations of many, the forthcoming elections will afford burgesses a good choice of selection. The Mayoralty is to be contested by the sitting Mayor, Mr W. Jones, and a member of the present council. Mr R. S. Finch, Five members of the council are again seeking election. They arc Messrs J. Donaldson, J. E. Holmes, St. C. Jonnneanx, G. H. Morrish, and F. G. W. Tibbits, while others who are desiring municipal honours are Messrs J. G. Barclay, J. 11. Brown, A. H. Curtis, T. M. Conaghan, J, E. Henderson, T. Mitchell. G. S, B. Morrison and J. W. Parkin and H. N. James. As only nine councillors arc required, the burgesses should sum up carefully the claims of the fourteen gentlemen who have offered their services. For appointment as the borough’s three 'representatives on the Hospital Board, Mrs Donaldson and Messrs Barclay, Higginson, Jones and Monash have been nominated, and there are four aspirants for the two seats on the Harbour Board. The nominees are Messrs P. P. Gardner and J. E. Holmes (the sitting members) and Messrs R. H. Allan and T. Ellis. It is good to find so pleasing a manifestation of interest in local affairs, which may be taken as a cheering omen for the future.
