WESTLAND RACES. TRIAL TO MONTPERE. (Per Press Association.—Copyright.) HOKITIKA, This Day. Postponed until today on account of rain yesterday, the Westland races afe being held in .showery weather on a heavy track. There is a moderate attendance. Results: —

Trial Race, of 50 sovs; five furlongs and a half. —(2-1) Monipere, 7.5, 1; (3-3) Silver Sight, 5.5, 2; (7-7) Lady Valkyrie, 9.0, 3. All started. Won by a nose; a length. Time—l.l3 2-5. President’s Handicap, of 60 sovs; seven furlongs.—(l-1) White Doe, 0,2, 1; (2-2) Solvear, 8.9, 2; (3-3) Shootist, 9.0, 3. Miss Mercia and Silver Sight were scratched. Won by a length cadi way. Time —1.35.

Express Trot, of GO sovs; one mile.— (3-4) Glen go wan, scr, .1; (5-4) Longherne, scr, 2; (8-4) Cinema, 24yds, 3. Parallax and Dawn Sonoma, were scratched. Won by two lengths; 20 lengths between second and third. Time, 2.22.

ON ELLERSLIE TRACKS. SOME SMART TIMES, LANDLUBBER’S GOOD EFFORT. (Special to "Northern Advocate ”a AUCKLAND, This Day. The rain overnight did not affect the tracks for training work at Ellerslie this morning, and the going was good. Some smart times were recorded. The course proper, with the poles 25ft out, and No. 3 grass track, wore both available for fast work. The tan, sand and two-year-old tracks were also used, chiefly for pace work, Cdurse Proper.

Sir Val opened proceedings by running the last six of seven furlongs in 1.10 2-5, doing it well.

Wee Pat was too good for Kilmuir at the end of five furlongs run in 1.3 4-5, the first two taking 25 1-5, Court Haven was going better than Zane Grey after traversing seven furlongs in 1.35 2-5. Court Haven eon id have done much better.

Mahkill and My Money sprinted half a mile in 52 1-5. There was little between them at the finish, and both worked impressively. Searcher, Darina, Notnmint and Woe Musk were'in that order at the end of six furlongs, which took 1.20 2-5, Wee Musk got: the best of the start, and the first three furlongs took 38 l-ssec.

Rapper beat Lady Lucas easily over five furlongs, the first two being covered in 24 2-5, and the full distance In 1.4 .1-5.

Grand Spirit, was sent seven furlongs, and, after taking 3Ssec for the first three, ran the distance in 1.32 1-5.

Psychologist Avas allotted a mile, and did his work in good style. He ran the first two furlongs in 24 l-ssec, three in 37soe, and the first half-mile in 49 3-ssec. He completed the gallop i-i 1.44 4-5. He carried a. light weight, but it Avas a good effort.

Manawhcnua and Tetrarchate were timed to run their first two furlongs hi 23 3-ssec, and completed five in 1.4 4-5. Manawhenmi beat his companion, avlio avus inclined to loaf at the finish, by a couple of lengths. Both could have improved on the time.

Chief Cook jumped off at the seven furlongs post, being timed to run his first half-mile in 49 1-5, traversing the full distance in 1.30 2-5. He went from a moving start and carried a light hoy. Still it Avas a good effort. .Miss ReAva finished in front of Vandyke at the conclusion of six furlongs, which occupied .1.21 2-5. She was mU unduly hurried.

Roman Mascot Avas sent a mile, wit), Marchctto to assist, her over the last six fnrltmgs. She ran the first four in 51 1-5, and traversed the mile in l.Ki 4-:i. Marchotte, who got the worst oi the pick up, ran homo in 1.20, and av-vs going nicely at the finish.

Elanford Avas holding Miss Lulu safely at the finish of a similar task, which took 3,48 4-5. The first half-mile wa.-i covered in 52 2-ssec,

United and Golden Spain were Hi,, firs! out after breakfast, being sent six: furlongs. They ran the first three in 39see, and finished up in 1.10 1-f,. There Was little between them at tlio finish, both doing their work in good style. Landlubber jumped off at the mile post, and, after running the first four furlongs in 5] 2-oaee, covered the full distance in 1.14 4-5. -This was a good effort, and he should show up in his engagements at Avondale.

On the Tan. Ruling King did strong work, running his last seven furlongs in 42 3-5. Gold Money and Supremo Ruler did useful work, being timed to run their final three furlongs in 40 3-ssoc. Imaniint completed live furlongs in 1.6 4-5, hitting out very freely...

Valroe was worked over aground,'Jmt was not after time, taking 2,5 3-5 for the distance.

Gay Broney and Wee Prince were al-, lotted a similar task, finishing on terjns ir, 2.2 4-5, the final six furlongs taking 1.37 2-5.

Taneriri worked steadily over a couple of rounds, but was not, going better than half pace. This horse has done very little fast work of late, and can hardly be ready to run a mile and a quarter. . L’Allegro, after going fast: over the early part, of a round, registered 2.2 2-5 for the distance, the last six furlciiigs taking 1.30 2-5, He was easing up af the end, ' The Jumpers. Trishna (Chaplin), who has joined A. Julian’s stable, was given a trial over a couple of pony hurdles, which he negotiated twice, giving an oncournging display for a novice. General Ln (Olive) jumped the steeplechase fences on the flat, his display being an improvement on his previous efforts. Other horses to do useful work were; Alpinns, Tarporley, Bright Flower, Hawthorn, Morohu, King March, King Comet, Billy Boy, Merry Damon, Patutahi, Escalns. TAKANINI TASKS. (Special to “Northern Advocate.’’) AUCKLAND, This Day. The inside grass track was available at Takanini this, morning- for fast woik, and the going was good. Regarded ran a mile in 1.47 2-5. Diversion covered six furlongs nicely in 1.23.,

Royal Artist and Speedmint were sent a mile, and Avere picked up at the seven furlongs post by Foul wind, and at the four by Gay Sheila, Speedmint dropping out at this stage. Royal Artist did his Avork impressively, finishing in front of Foulwind and Gay Sheila, avlio avoio on terms. He ran the mile in 1.44, and Fouhviud registered 1.29 for seven furlongs. Armntnm finished- a length in front of The Hiker at the conclusion of five furlongs run in 1.3. 3-5. Rereatu took f. 3 for a similar distance. Clifford, in connection with the Dargaville case last December, has been removed by the Auckland District Racing Committee.
