NO QUORUM
AWKWARD FOE EASTER
HOSPITAL BOARD LAPSE
(Special to “Northern Advocate.”) . WAIHI, Saturday
Trouble in connection with hospital matters assumed another phase on Thursday.
As the result of no quorum being present at the last meeting of the Hospital Board recipients of the usual sustenance were, unable to obtain orders from the sectetary on Thursday.
The chairman, Colonel Jowsey, published a notice the same day that, owing to the absence from the meeting of three members, Mrs .Hughes and Messrs Copstake and Cooper, the hospital and relief accounts could not be passed.
Later in the day it was pointed out that several cases of acute distress existed and that assistance was urgently necessary to tide the people over Easter. Subaequenly a subscription list was circulated in the town and a substantial amount, was collected.
The chairman, in an interview, said
he would, in the course of a few days, take upon himself the responsibility of issuing sustenance orders, but in the meantime be bad advised the recipients to wait upon the three absentee members.
The usual fortnightly payment <»f the hospital staff salaries and, wages prior to Easter was not made on Thursday. The chairman’s attitude Is that the members who absented themselves from the last meeting are solely responsible.
