DE VALERA REPROACHED

1.8. A. INDIGNATION,

“NO FURTHER USE FOR HIM.”

(Received II a.m.) LONDON, December 19

The “Evening News” Dublin correspondent says that the Republican Army is violently attacking Mr de Valera owing to his refusal to intervene in the sentence passed on two members of the Army for attempting to damage premises during the enforcement of the anti-British beer boycott. The accused refused to recognise the Court, whereupon Judge Davitt, a son of the famous Michael Davit, invoked the Cosgrave “coercion Act” and ordered one month’s imprisonment for contempt. The Republican Army organised a protest meeting, and the speakers declared they had no further use for Mr de Valera, and urged the use of force to establish a Republic. Judge Davitt is heavily guarded.
