LATE SPORTING

TAKANINI TASKS. (Special to “Northern Advocate.”) AUCKLAND, This Day. Tlio inside grass track, with the polos six feet out and the plough were in use at Takonini this morning and were in excellent order, Greek Gold was halt a, length in front, of Exaggeration at the end of live furlongs in 1.1 4,-5. Both horses went, well and Greek Gold appears to he showing all his former speed. Bugle Call and Kind Words worked over a mile on the jilough, running the distance comfortably in 1.50. Pvolyxo beat Holly Lu by several lengths over seven furlongs which iie traversed in ,1.27 ?>-5, a track record for the distance.

Tea Trader worked over nine furlongs, but the pace was on only over the last three furlongs, which he ran comfortably in 3S 4-ss.

Gold Pocket was two lengths in advance of Expectancy at the end of half a mile in 52 2-ss. The , former was going away at the finish. Master Brierley easily defeated Royal Artist over a mile run in the good time of 1.42 4.-5. The last half took 50 2-5 s which probably accounts for Royal Artist not finishing on well, - Alignment ran home from the three furlong post in 40s without being, unduly hurried.

Great Emblem was sent a mile on the plough, with Marmorate and Orendo, the trio finishing in that: order at intervals of a. couple of lengths in 1.45.

Gay Marigold improved on her mile effort of last week by defeating Chief Joy very comfortably in 1.42. Gay Marigold commenced to lead her companion three furlongs from home and finished several lengths in front. Lorelle was too lengths in front of Gay Sheila, at the finish of half a mile in 50 3-ss.

Pillow-fight's appearance created interest and he duly satisfied track watchers by covering six furlongs on the plough in the best time that has been recorded on this track, namely 1..14. He was ridden by R. S. Bagby and was accompanied over the last half mile by Lord Willonyx, who finished on terms with him. The plough is usually a great deal slower than the grass but they are both very fast at present and there is not a great deal between them. Pillowlight, has improved a great deal and he (should take some beating in his classic engagement at Ellercdie.

Tavern Knight was trotted over a couple of rounds. He showed signs of soreness and unless ho makes a rapid recovery may not take his place in the Great Northern Foal Stakes. WAJRARAPA RACES. HANDICAPS DECLARED.
