The men lined up the customers and employees, but a clerk pressed a button, giving the alarm to the police headquarters. Two officers arrived just as the robbers came out of the bank with their arms filled with bundles of notes. A confederate outside opened fire with a machine gun, killing one policeman and two bystanders.
