TRAWLER AND STEAMER
BOTH VESSELS DISABLED
(Received 9 a.m.) PERTH, December IS
The trawler South Sea has arrived at Fremantle from Hull, cn route to Lyttelton.
The chief engineer, Mr Morris, relates that when leaving Las Palmas after bunkering, the trawler collided with the stonepool, a vessel of 4800 tons, engaged in the South African trade.
The trawler’s bow was stove in to the waterline. Captain P. d. Dowell transferred his wife to the liner, which was so badly damaged that it had to l)e berthed. After a desperate struggle, the four decks being awash, the Stonepool reached land nine miles distant.
Mrs Dowell says she can claim to have been in two wrecks in one day. The South Sea, after bunkering, leaves Eremantlo for Lyttelton direct.
