STRICT LIMITATION

MEAT IMPORTS ORDER. CHECK ON EXPLOITATION. CONFIRMATION BY COMMONS. ; (Received 9 a.m.) LONDON, December 16. In the House of Commons today Mr E. L. Burgin (National Liberal, Luton) moved the approval of the Ottawa agreements, concerning the importation of meat order, the purpose of which is to ensure that importers should not exceed the agreed limit. Mr T. Williams (Labour, Don Valley) complained that the system of licensing resulted in importers paying primary producers less while they were getting a higher price in Britain. Importers had exploited the position.

Mr J. Lambert (National Liberal. South Molton) said bis object was to raise the price of home-produced meat and to see that importers made no undue profits. The order was carried by IG3 votes to 3G.
