DOUBLE DROWNING
FATTIER AND CHILD,
BODIES NOT RECOVERED,
(Special to "Northern Advocate.")
WIT AK AT AN E, This Day
A double drowning accident occurred in the Whakatano river between -t and d o’clock yesterday afternoon. Several native children were bathing in the river near Poroporo, when one child, aged seven years, got into difficulties in deep water. The child’s father, Mr. D. Savage, dived, fully clothed, in an attempt to effect a rescue. Both, however, wore drowned, and the bodies have not yet been recovered. It is surmised that the father became entangled in a snag when he dived, and was thus prevented from teaching his child.
