Thirty years later my doctor told me to quit smoking right away. I asked him when he thought I should be able to start again. “When they invent a tobacco without nicotine in it,” he replied. He thought lie was being funny, but, by George! they have invented a tobacco practically free from nicotine since then, so I am smoking iny old briar once more! ” “What tobacco d’you refer to?” asked somebody. “Why the New Zealand tobacco. It’s toasted, and thus most of the nicotine in it is eliminated. Even my doctor has nothing to urge against this tobacco. Smokes it himself! ’ ’ This . old North Shore resident referred to the four celebrated brands: Navy Cut No,. o, Eiverhead Gold, Cavendish, and Cut Plug No. 10, and he spoke truly when he said these brands were not only harmless but possessed a flavour and-bouquet- all their own, E 305
