Tiio Senate today rejected a, propo-. sal to accord the Philippine Islands’, independence in live years, and proceeded to consider plans for a longer transition period. The vote was 3& to 37. Later the Senate approved the proposal of freedom in eight years, the vote being 40 to 38. Senator Bulow (Democrat, South. Dakota) moved reconsideration of the vote. The final vote on the bill as a whole has yet to be taken, after - which the differences with the House of Representatives have to be reconciled before it goes to the President, .
