mg amiss. *vfiss Harris, who lives alone in Jicr ■weatherboard cottage, Iras been the victim of the bitterness of some unknown enemy for many years, and periodically practical Jokes of all kinds have been played against her. Strange people call, often asking for .fictitious addresses and directions, and strangers frequently prowl about her grounds at night. Her pets have been wantonly destroyed, seven cats and throe dogs having been poisoned. "Yesterday the >St. George Ambulance received, a telephone call from a public box, and an apparently agitated woman /'spoke to the attendant. "Come quickly to Mimosa .Street," she .said
“The vendetta has broken out again. Mf.ss Harris is dying. TTnrry, or you will be too late. ” An ambulance waggon *was hastily despatch od to file scene.
Dr. Simmons, of Bexley, and the police received similar calls from the woman, and they hastened to Miss Harris' home. They arrived within a lew minutes of each other. The ambulance men vaulted the fence in their haste to get to the supposed victim of a tragedy. Miss Harris opened the door, and assured them that stie was in the best of health. The police ;nre at -a loss to account for the series of outrages against the defenceless woman. Tier home was
considerably damaged 'when it was ! ’bombed last Saturday, and furniture "was broken and windows were' smashed by the explosion. Sergeant Hale and Deteelfive Miles are endeavouring to tra.oo the offender.
