NEW WRESTLING CLUB
FIRST GENERAL .MEETING
KEEN ENTHUSIASM DISPLAYED
The first general meeting of the newly formed Northland Amateur Wrestling Gymnasium Club was held last evening, when about 50 enthusiasts attended.
Mr Ron Cook, the organiser of tho club, reported that a good number of subscriptions had been received from local supporters and everything augured well for a successful career. Thn club had purchased a fine mat, and with only one or two other small expenses to he met would soon be fran of debt.
The question of fees then came up for consideration, and after a short discussion the weekly levy per member was decided upon. Although the full set of officers has not yet been elected,, tho following positions were filled last, evening:— Patron, Mr R. G. Hosking; president, Mr G. Reid; trustees, Messrs Cl. Wilding and R. Boreham. Air T. Hollows was previously appointed secretary.
Mr S. Eoreham offered the use of! ropes for the ereetion of the ring, and this was accepted with thanks. The club intends procuring ropes of its own as soon as finances permit, hut in the meantime, Mr Boreham’s offer ivill he a decided accpiisition. Tn concluding the meeting, Mr George Wilding, in a short, but very instructive address, tendered valuable advice, to the members, and outlined a course which he considered the forerunner to success.
Twenty-five members were enrolled by the secretary, who reported that there were many more prospective members.
The remainder of the evening Was spent in training bouts, several contestants showing great promise.
