FAIR SPORT

DARGAVILLE SHIELD TROPHY

METHOD OF ALLOCATION.

One of the fairest ways possible- of ensuring that each affiliated " body secures equal chances of big matches on their home ground has been adopted by the North Auckland Cricket Association. Sub-associations compete annually for the Dargaville Shield. Should one sub-association hold the tiophy for two years, the names of all other sub-associations are placed in tlje hat, and a draw' made to decide- who should first defend the shield for the ensuing season. There was quite a tenseness when this procedure took place at the annual meeting of the association last night. Rodney, who won the shield from Mangonui in 1930, w’ere debarred from participating, and the draw resulted in Whangarei being successful. Tbo team holding the shield at the end of the season has its name engraved as the winner. These wise provisions were made by the donor of the trophy, the late Mr Frank Dargaville.
