OVERLAIN
BABY’S DEATH. (Special to “Northern Advocate.”) PUTAEURU, This Day. Albert Torrance Wellington, a four-weeks-old babj r , died at Puketurua, near Pntaruru, as the result of being accidentally lain on by his mother. The mother, who occupied a single bed with a young girl, awoke at five o’clock on Saturday morning and took the baby from a cot into her bed to give it nourishment. The mother evidently dropped off to sleep, and when she awoke two hours later she discovered that she had lain on the child. Artificial respiration was tried and medical aid sought, but the doctor pronounced life extinct. At the inquest on Monday, before Mr. IT. K. McDermott, .T.P., district coroner, a 'verdict was returned that death was due to asphyxiation through being accidentally lain on by his mother.
