MONEY DISAPPEARS

INCORRIGIBLE WOMAN,

GAOLED FOR SIX MONTHS,

(Special to “Northern Advocate.”) AUCKLAND, Tuesday.

“Only last week I let you go for robbing a sick woman. I gave you a chance by admitting you to probation,” said Air F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court, this morning, in consigning Ivy Hazel Kite (40) to prison for six mouths on a charge of stealing £2O, belonging to John Devise, on September S.

Accused pleaded not guilty. .John Devise, a bushman, said -ho mot accused in a. hotel, and made arrangements to go to a house. They had some beer, and after he left her he discovered that he had lost £2O.

Winifred living in Airedale Street, said she had knowm accused for some years. Accused and Devise came to her house last Thursday. Witness wont outfide, and five minutes later, when she returned, Devise was gone. Devise gave witness 2/ for a drink.

A domestic, and a sister of accused, was the next witness. She said she met accused in Karangahape Road on Thursday afternoon. Accused insisted on buying a pair of shoes for her, although witness did not want her to do so. Accused also bought a pair for herself. “I asked her where she got the money from, and she told me to mind my own business,” added witness. “Wo both went home, and my sister wanted to give me £2, which I would not take. She threw- £2 on the table. This money I handed to the police.”

After other evidence had been heard, accused went into the witness box. .She said she worked at Mangere three days per week at »/ per day. She was paid last Thursday. She denied having been in a hotel and meeting Devise there. She met complainant at Mrs Molloy’s house. He was very drunk and pulled out a roll of notes from his pocket and.placed the money on the kitchen table. “He asked me to meet him that night and handing me two notes, said he would give me more later,” continued accused. “He said, ‘You may as well have it as, the pubs.* ” “That’s enough,” said the magistrate who sentenced Kite to six months’ imprisonment. Detective-Sergeant McHugh said Kite had a long list of previous convictions.
