HUTCHINSONS SAFE
TRAWLER TO THE RESCUE WHOLE PARTY LANDED RISKING CHILDREN’S LIVES. DENUNCIATORY COMMENT,. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received 9 a.m.) • LONDON, September 13.
The master of the trawler Lord Talbot wirelessed from Reykjavik, Iceland, stating that he had located Mr and Mrs George Hutchinson, their two children, and four companions, who were forced to alight- in their amphibian aeroplane, the Flying Family, on the sea near Greenland on Sunday. He said he would rescue them at daylight. -A later message said the party had been rescued and taken to the wireless station at Sinshn, East Greenland. The Copenhagen newspaper “Polit-i----ken” declared that the Danish Government forbade the Hutchinsons to land on Greenland because it realised that such flights were unsuitable and useless, especially where women an,cl children were concerned.
Under the heading, “Gambling With Children’s Lives,” the “Daily Express,” in a leading article, protests against the Hutchinsons’ flight. It says it is not too early to denounce the folly and selfishness which prompted this latest publicity incident. The “Nows Chronicle” says it hopes that children' never again will be exposed, without reason, to so cruel a fate. Tho inclusion of children in such a foolhardy expedition seems really indefensible. ,
The rescue was the result of three trawlers sweeping the ocean abreast for So miles. Darkness was falling when the Lord Talbot, saw a : flare far to the east. Ice rendered approach hazardous, and the trawler signalled by Morse,' to'-which the Hutchinsons replied: “All well.” The trawler stood by till daylight. Another message says that the machine is wrecked. THE FAMILY LANDED. . SEQUEL TO WIDE SEARCH. (Received 2 p.m.) LONDON, September 13. The Lord Talbot landed the Hutchinson family and their companions at Angmagsalik, • Greenland. Apparently the plane was forced down in a snowstorm. The master and crew of the-Lord Talbot had been engaged in a painstaking search .off the... 'Greenland coast near Angmagsalik, since Sunday afternoon. At one o’clock the plane was found at the lower end of Ikersuak Fiorde, ’ .10 . miles south of Angmagsalik, which, is the headquarters of the British Arctic Air (Survey Expedition, two of -whose members ,-joined in the search by motor-boat.
The owners of the trawler had given Captain Watson, who is an intrepid, resourceful skipper, instructions to. render every possible assistance in the search, and to fall in with any wish expressed by Mr Hutchinson. ■ The Lord Talbot is a vessel of 825 tons, and is one of the best-equipped trawlers in the Aberdeen fleet. After landing the family and crew safely, the trawler proceeded to the fishing grounds.
