ST. JOHN AMBULANCE

WHANGAREI DIVISION. FLEMING CUP COMPETITION. TROPHY CHANGES HANDS. A challenge for the Fleming, Cup was decided at the Whangarci Y.M.C.A. St. John Ambulance Station last night. There was a large attendance of members and ladies of

the nursing division. The competition was an interesting one. Teams of four stretcher bearers advanced over an obstacle, attended to injuries, loaded the stretcher,' retired over an obstruction, unloaded tho stretcher, examined the injuries and answered questions. The time allowed was 15 minutes. The second part of the competition was individual triangular bandage work. Four teams entered and the maximum marks were 185.

The judges, Drs. Brunette and Buckley, made the following awards.—Number 3 team, Pts. E. Miller (in charge), B. Windust, .1. Whiteman and A. Doel, 165 marks, 1; Number 1 (Pte. Ralph Fulljames), which lost six points . on time, 163, 2; Number 2 team (Pte. R. Dreadon), 158, 3; Number 4 team (Pte W. Wilson), 156, 4. After the trophy had been presented by the superintendent, Dr. iS. H. Ward, supper was served.

. EXAMINATION RESULTS. •NUMEROUS HONOURS OBTAINED. First year members of the Whangarci Y.M.C.A. Division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade achieved excellent results in the first aid examinations held last July. Eleven candidates were presented, nine securing first class passes. These were Pts. A. .A. John Doel, M. Hammond, T. H. Hawkins, W. T. Norris, Ecresford Sharp, S C. Smith,. E.. H.-Reynolds-and J. C, C Woolley. I). M. Alison, who was away from the. district, was also awarded a. pass. Nursing Division. The .following candidates, were successful In the female - first aid class: — Medallion: Mrs A. Carrington and Miss Joyce Tucker. First class pass: Misses Beryl Crawford and Betty Hawkcs. Passed: Mcsdamcs Crawford, Hiire, Shannon and Inder, and Misses R, Kruse, P. Strong and J. Phillips, Juniors: Misses N. Brott, Z. Froo-. Icy and Z. 'Spratt.
