Because of the small amount of work available on the Whangarei wharves, the committee asked that this district be exempted from the regulations governing relief work for watersiders. The committee represented that the regulations simply debarred men from earning a few shillings during their time off. The board replied that the rules relating to the amount of relief which may be granted to intermittent workers must be adhered to.
