Spite of the cold night players rolled up well, and were quickly engaged in exciting contests at the tables provided. The series of games resulted in first prize (a handsome clock) falling to Mr C. P.radshaw and second and third prizes being won by Mr and Mrs P. Mason respectively. A dainty supper was served and enjoyed and it was a late hour ’ere the guests took leave of their hostess. Good wishes of friends and all knowing them go with the young people to their new home. A Day’s Work. The proceeds of the recent successful unemployed dance, other public entertainments, and private subscriptions, with the addition of the £1 for £1 subsidy from the Town Board, realised, last week, a tidy sum, sufficient to give a full day’s work to each of Onerahi’s unemployed. It was quite like old times _to see the men busily engaged on the roads, clearing gorse, etc., and, needless to say, the change from enforced idleness, even for one day, was greatly appreciated by the recipients. The local committee must be 'heartily congratulated on the successful activities that made such action possible. Football Dance, Wednesday’s dance in the Town Hall, hi aid. of the Onerahi Football Club’s funds, was an outstanding success. The footballers always do their guests well, and “the jolliest dance of the season” was the universal verdict. Guests rolled, up well from far afield, and the largo floor was filled with merry dancers as the music struck up and no dull moment marred the fun. Tissue streamers, flowers and greenery, in artistic decoration, lent, added colour, and it was a gay scene as the dancers footed it ’neath the lights. McLean’s orchestra —Mr McLean (violin), Miss Calkin (piano) and My Calder (kettle drum and saxophone)—furnished music that set one’s feet tripping involuntarily, as dancing went a-swing. Competition dances added pleasurable excitement, the win ners being cheered to the echo as the ■prizes were awarded. That for the Monte’ Carlo (shaving brush and box of chocolates) was won by Miss Beasley and partner, while the Spot Waltz (bar of soap and packet of cigarettes) fell to Mr and Mrs G. Brott. Catering was in the capable hands of Mr J. Mathieson, a dainty and appetising* supper was served, and, afterwards, the revel continued till well on into the wee sma’ ’oors. Mr W, Snratt made a genial and efficient M.C. Euchre on the stage gave amusement to non-dancers, and much fun and excitement attended the battles of the experts at the tables provide , whore a series of close games resulted as follows: —First prize (chest of tea), Mrs Ji m Mason; second (electric torch), Mrs L. Y. Rcott. Third place wont to Air G. Brott. New Residents. Mr and Mrs Roberts and family, who recently arrived from Wellington, are in occupation of Mrs Haigh’s house and section in Park Road.
