After being somewhat neglected for several weeks, slightly improved demand has set in for apples. Pears are, however, still dull of sale, as are also tomatoes. Lemons meet with poor demand, and mandarins are still low in juice. Oranges, on the other hand, met with better inquiry, but grapefruit were dull of sale. Poorman oranges are still cheap. Ripe rejiacked bananas are meeting with ready sale at higher prices. The demand for vegetables has been fair this week, but the market is still fairly ihoavily stocked with cabbage, cauliflower, pumpkins and carrots. Smaller quantities of celery came to hand this week and sales wore made at an advance of 2d jicr head. Fair supplies of new potatoes are coming forward. The market is well-snjipliod with both local and Southern onions and there arc still some Japanese on hand. Quotations arc: —

MINING NEWS. WATHI COMPANY. (Special to “Northern Advocate.”) WAIHI, This I)ay. The manager of tlie Waihi Goldmining Company, Ltd., lias cabled the following information to the London office of the concern:—For the period ended July 23, comprising 22 J days, 18,981 tons of ore were crushed, for a result of 0110 fine ounces of gold, and 40,028 fine ounces of silver. This includes 20.12 tons mined from the Grand Junction area, which yielded 917 ounces of gold and dOSS ounces of silver.
