WINTER SHOW
INCREASED ENTRIES SCHOOL SECTION DOWN, EXHIBITS OP INTEREST. The entries for the Whangarei Winter Show, which will take place during five days next week (Tuesday to Saturday inclusive), have proved very satisfactory, and with the exception of the school section, show an increase on those of last year. The following are the figures in each section: —
Poultry and pigeons provide a largo increase, farm and garden are lower, due to the fact, no doubt, that an appeal was made last year for exhibits on account of the Governor-Gen-eral being present to open the exhibition.
Fruit and dairy produce slioav a small decrease, but good competition is assured.
All other sections arc augmented with the exception of the school classes, the large drop in that total being attributable to the outbreak of Avhooping cough in the local schools. A notable absentee this year is the Waiotira School, last year’s winner of the shield.
The dairy section discloses an advance and will make a good display. It is intended to include this as a combined display with the North Auckland dairy factories, and the executive lias given the space in the entrance to the hall for this purpose. An array of New Zealand-made goods and one by the district manufacturers should also prove of considerable interest.
The committee lias arranged for a boxing exhibition on the Thursday evening, and Highland dancing on the Saturday. It is also intended to conduct a baby competition, and full details of these attractions Avil! be advertised later.
The “Model City” is also an attraction, coming direct from Australia. All visitors are recommended to A’isit this section, as apart from being an entertainment it is of educational interest to the children especially. In the Australian toAvns the school children Avere permitted to visit this entertainment during school hours. Some very fine trophies are for competition, and an impressive display of those may be seen opposite the Post Office.
