Tlie Whangarei branch of the Unemployed Association upon' learn-'' ing that work was being provided in Auckland for 000 during this week, which is normally a "stand down” week under the No. 5 Scheme, waited upon the Mayor, with a request that similar treatment be extended to Whangarei. Mr Jones immediately forwarded a wire to Mr Slaughter, the departmental district head, making the request on behalf of Whangarei.
On Thursday last a very plflasant Gift afternoon was held at the resi deuce of Mrs W. Dodds, Paparoa, the object being fo collect articles for the jumble stalls at the. forthcoming sale of gifts, to be held in the Garrison Hall in pid of the Anglican Church funds. Competitions, games and community singing combined to make the afternoon pleasurable and interesting. Afternoon tea. was served at the close. The attendance was over 40, and the response of gifts for the stall was excellent.
