: ADJUSTMENT OF SALARIES. STATEMENT BY MR FORBES. (From Our Parliamentary Special.) WELLINGTON, Friday. TJio Government’s intentions regarding payment of the April salaries of public servants was indicated to the House of Representatives today by the Prime Minister. In reply to an'urgent question, Mr I orbes said the Bill before Parliament provided for salary adjustments to operate from April 1 on the same principle as was adopted last year. “Pending decision as 10 a graduated scale of reductions,” added Mr. Forbes, “all departments were instructed last month that respecting the first half of the month salary abstracts were to be prepared at the then current rates of pay, and that adjustments arising out of reductions as decided upon would be made in the abstracts for the second half of April. Arrangements are in hand- for this procedure to npply,’so as to avoid so far as possible any delays in payment or hardship occasioned by delayed adjustment.”
