RANGTTIKET FAIL

The Hawke Cup cricket match between South Auckland and Rangitikei was resumed on Saturday in ideal weather, and on a perfect wicket. Rangitikei, faced with a deficit of 338 on the first innings, failed again in the second and were aU* out for 94 runs soon after luncheon. South Auckland won by an innings and 241 runs.

PARNELL IN THE LEAD

The fifth series of matches in the senior championships of the Auckland Cricket Association was concluded on Saturday, under ideal conditions. In spite of fast wickets and outfields the batting sides all failed, with the exception of Eden, which played a drawm game with King’s Old Boys. Wins on the first innings were gained by Ponsonby, Y.M.C.A. and Parnell, over Grafton, University and North Shore respectively.

As a result of Saturday’s play,Parnell is now in the lead for the ehampionship honours, with 10 points, followed by Y.M.C.A. and King's Old Boys, which are equal second with 15 points.

KILBIRNIE’S FIRST LOSS.

The fourth series of the senior cricket championship matches was concluded on Saturday in glorious w'ea ther and on fast wickets.

The game between the two previously unbeaten teams, Hutt and Kilbirnic, ended in victory for Hutt by 73 runs on the first innings. In response to Hurt's 235 Kilbirnie scored only 180 (Hepburn 63, Chriatophersen 47) against good bowling by MeGirr, who took 6 wickets for 44, and Judd 5 for 85, Hutt lost six wickets for 100 in the second innings. Old Boys, 260, beat Wellington 227 (Morgan *77, Whyte 54, Hollings 52). Old Boys lost 5 wickets for 173 in the second innings (Dempster 77). Institute, 288, beat Midland, 128 and 285 for six (Dustin 96, Donoghue 64). An exciting finish between Petone, 276, and University saw the latter fail to reach Petone ’s total by four runs.

The Wellington team to play Auckland for the Plunket Shield at Wellington during the Christmas holidays will be: Lowry, Dempster, James, MeGirr, Lambert, Hepburn, Dustin, Henderson, Massey, J. Newman, Griffiths. Lamason is twelfth man.
