, THE WORLD’S BEST JERSEYS. WHAXGAREI »s distinction. Particular local interest is attach eel to the latest reports from Jersey Island supplying the results of the Royal Show held there in August last, as animals very closely related to Wha-ngarei-owned Jerseys were amongst the principal prize-winners. The quality of the stock exhibited was of exceptionally high merit, and it was very pleasing to learn that the grand champion cow was closely related to Willonyx Oxford Lad (Imp.), now owned by Air Conrad Wilson at. Titoki. This champion cow was the 4-year-old Willonyx Beauty lOrh, who is by Nobly Born from Willonyx Beauty Pth, a maternal sister of Willonyx Oxford Lad. Willonyx Beauty ]oth won the young cow class for cows three to six years of age, nut of a total class of seventy-throe cows, also winning the Blythwood Bowl and the Brampton, Challenge Trophy for the best cow or heifer in milk. The> dam of Air Wilson’s great sire, Willonyx Beauty nth, was herself third over Jersey Island at the same show, while her daughter, Willonyx Beauty Oth, had at the previous Royal Spring Snow in May won first prize over Jersey as an aged cow. This family is remarkable for the number of prize-winners it has produced. Willonyx Beauty 2nd, a maternal sister to the dam of Willonyx Beauty oth, won the Blythwood Bowl for champion over Jersey in 1022, and in 1025 Willonyx Minnie 4th, a mater- 1 nal sister to 'the sire of the Whangarci hull, was reserve. The sire of Willonyx Oxford Lad (imp.) is Minnie’s Sybil Oxford, who sired Willonyx Dandy Girl, winner of a high award at the Eastern States Exposition, held recently at Dallas, Texas, U.S.A, This cow under tost last year produced 4121bs fat in 182 days, being dried off at this period in preparation for an extensive showring campaign where she annexed numerous championships. Mr George Hodgson, the well-known Whakapara breeder, also owns a. highclass two-year-old son of "Willonyx Oxford Lad. Dr. Walker also has reason to fool pleased with the results at this show, as his beautiful imported cow, Lynn’s Nolly, is by Nobly Born, who sired both the grand champion cow and grand champion bull, which is a. great distinction at, the Royal Jersey Show. Valiant of Oaklands, the champion son cf Nobly Born, also annexed the Gisborne Cup, and the Australian Cup for the best bull from a tested clam. Dr. Walker also has a beautiful yearling daughter of Valiant of Oaklands. Over the past few years very marked progress has been made by the Jersey brood in ■ North Auckland, and with such exceptionally well-bred stock now in the hands of breeders it i., only a matter of time when this district will be as well known for the quality of its Jerseys as Taranaki and the Waikato is today.
